Why buy new, when you can buy old!

A while ago my friends Emma and Alana started my Crown Lynn collection for me buy gifting me a pink Crown Lynn colour glaze cup and saucer. Now I have been slowly building up my collection... as I am but a poor student it is taking a while, but I am happy with my progress so far.

I like the Crown Lynn, because each piece is like a little bit of New Zealand history... and the colour glaze is my ultimate fav. (Speaking if which this seller has now unfairly 'blacklisted' me on trademe just because I asked her if she would sell these cute egg cups as a set. Then I asked her why not and now shes blocked me from bidding!! Gee Wiz!)

I found some new pieces today, but will have to wait until payday to purchase them, here is hoping someone else doesn't beat me to it!

Vegan Treaties

My friend Emma visited yesterday and with our powers combined we created these delicious vegan marbled cupcakes. Emma had brought with her sparkly red baking bowls! (Somewhat like these) I liked them a lot, as I am known for collecting red and white kitchen things :-)

Emma also supplied the recipe which had things like soy milk and cider vinegar and margarine in it. (Things I don't have much experience baking with!)

To my surprise they turned out wonderfully! Such an interesting velvet texture, almost like perfectly steamed milk.

I also made some vegan choc & raspberry cookies, my favourite!
Here is how:

Oven 180C

1/2c raspberry jam
1/2c sugar
1/3c canola oil
1t vanilla extract
1/4t almond extract
1/2c & 2T cocoa
1 & 3/4c flour
3/4t baking soda
1/4t salt

Stir together the jam, sugar, canola oil, vanilla, and almond extract.

In a separate bowl, sift together the other ingredients. Add the dry to the wet in three batches, mixing well after each. You may need to use your hands to work into a dough!

Roll out and cut out desired shapes.

Bake for 10min

Then add a little jam to the middle, cook for a further 2 mins.
Then add a decoration to the top. I stuck nonpareils on with jam!

Do the hokey-pokey and turn around...

...and that's what it's all about.

Yesterday I made lots of cookies. The first lot 'honey snaps' were somewhat of a disaster. But the hokey pokey ones turned out real good.

Essentially I made them because A. I had run out of baking to take for lunches/snacks and B. I needed to try out my new cookie cutter:

Here is how to make these nommy cookies.
250g butter
1c sugar
2T treacle
2T milk
3&1/4C flour, sifted
2t baking powder

in a pot melt the first 4 ingredients together, stir lots so it doesn't burn!
Then cool mixture down then add the dry ingredients. Roll out thinnish onto a floured bench and cut shapes. Put on tray and bake on 180 for 15ish mins or until golden goose.

Then you gotta do the icing.
So whip up some royal icing (egg white and icing sugar)
and pipe it round the edges, adding some detail. (I just put my icing in a snap-lock bag and cut off the tiniest bit of corner for my icing bag)

Then cause it made so many I packaged them and gave/am giving some away to friends/family.

They are yum too which is important, cause some cookies look better than they taste and are always a let down. These however are delicious. Hope you get round to making some!

Wedding makeup photoshoot

My sister Gemma has just started a make up/hair artistry business called LACQA. She asked me to take photographs for her online portfolio for wedding make up.

It was a beautiful day indeed so I took these scenery shots too...

A few of the shots from the shoot

Then a stunning night sky to finish off the day...
